After many long months of planning, Bais Refoel Foundation is proud to announce that there is now an Eiruv that covers the majority of the Corewell (formerly Beaumont) Hospital RO campus and the Bais Refoel hospitality house.
Jewish law prohibits an individual to carry objects on Shabbos (Friday Sundown until Saturday Sundown) and on Yom Kippur between private and public places. An Eruv creates one large space that is considered a private domain where it is permissible to carry within.
The Eruv is established in two ways. By physically connecting the boundaries of the area utilizing existing structures, overhead wires and fences. Additionally designating and classifying the area as an Eruv, Saying the proper Declarations and fulfilling the additional requirements of creating and maintain an Eruv.
The Bais Refoel Eruv at Corwell Hospitals Royal Oak campus covers the majority of the parking lots, Buildings and the Bais Refoel Hospitality House. Please review the map, and confirm the Eruv is Functional prior to relying on it.
The Bais Refoel Eruv is a result of the coordinated efforts of Corewell Health, The Bais Refoel Foundation, Community Eruv Experts Rabbis Wolf and Fischer, Mr. Gary Torgow, and Mr. Mark Davidoff. Much of the work was performed by Ferndale Electric.

An integral part of the Jewish laws in establishing an Eiruv, is the need to set a side a shared meal for anyone partaking in the Eiruv’s use. Here Rabbi Amzalak is holding the box of Matzah that is being designated for such meals.

WHY THE NEED FOR AN EIRUV
Jewish law prohibits an individual to carry objects on Shabbos - from Friday sundown until Saturday sundown - as well as on Yom Kippur, between a private and public property. An ‘Eiruv’ creates a unified space between two such properties that allows people to carry to and from both areas.
HOW TO MAKE AN EIRUV
The Eiruv is established in two parts. Firstly, by physically connecting the boundaries of the area. Typically through utilizing existing structures, specific overhead wires or permanent fences to classify the area as an enclosed private domain. Having established this with Rabbinical guidance, we then pronounce the associated prayers and designate food in either location for people in both areas to access.
The Bais Refoel Eiruv at Corewell’s RO campus covers most parking lots and walkways between the Towers to allow carrying to and from the Bais Refoel hospitality house.
